NAV+ art – 2008
Lake District
Next course: 20/21 September
NAV+art is a weekend training course dedicated to the art of navigation for mountain marathons and adventure races. Our next course in September is primarily focused at people entering the OMM event in October, but is equally applicable to any adventure racer wanting to further their navigation skills. The programme is designed to give you maximum training and information to help you improve your performance, comfort and ultimate success at the OMM, or similar.
The course programme includes :
- Navigation – both micro navigation and macro route choices.
- Food and Nutrition – theory and practical advice to survive events!
- Equipment and Gear Seminar – how to travel light, samples of suitable kit and displays of the latest and best products.
- Mountain Marathon craft – tips and ‘How to do it’ . . as well as ‘How not to do it!’
- Training, Stretching and Recovery . . . and anything we can cram in for you
The programme is not intended to be a physically demanding weekend, but the weekend will be tiring because it is a busy programme and you will learn so much. Your ‘running’ speed or ability is not relevant, nor is your navigation experience. You will learn in small groups of equal ability and experience. However, this is not a course for complete beginners and some understanding of a map is expected.

GL3Day 08
The Great Lakeland 3 Day Ultra Mountain Trail
3/4/5th May 2008
EVENT FULL
GL3D is a unique three day stage run, for experienced mountain endurance athletes. Having enjoyed our tenth anniversary ‘en tour’ in Wales in 2007, we are returning to The Lakes for the eleventh year of the event. We have also taken a long hard look at what has made GL3D so unique and special over the past 10 years and given it a shake up. The result is a longer and tougher event, as we concluded that the days’ had become too short and campsites too tame, in recent years! Be warned … GL3D 2008 won’t be easy
- The route changes each year
- This year the route will be approximately 100 miles spread over the three days
- Excellent navigational skills and complete self-reliance are required
- Individual support teams are not allowed
- Check points are few and far between
- Good route choice options - there is no route description, only checkpoint grid references and descriptions
- Participants should expect to take between 7 and 14 hours each day
- GL3D is a small friendly event with a friendly atmosphere complementing the tough days
